Why Every Creator Needs a Media Kit
A media kit is a visual document that showcases who you are as a creator, the value of your audience, and why brands should partner with you. Think of it as your professional portfolio and sales pitch in one. Creators with polished media kits are taken more seriously by brands and command higher rates than those who respond to inquiries with just a DM.
What to Include
Page 1: The Introduction
- Your name and brand name (if different)
- Professional headshot or brand photo
- One-paragraph bio that explains your niche, your story, and what makes your content unique
- Platform icons with follower counts for each active platform
- Contact information and management details if applicable
Page 2: Audience Demographics
This is the most important page for brands. Include:
- Age distribution (screenshot from platform analytics)
- Gender split
- Top geographic locations (countries and cities)
- Audience interests if available
Pull this data directly from your native platform analytics (Instagram Insights, YouTube Studio, TikTok Analytics). Brands trust native data more than third-party estimates.
Page 3: Performance Metrics
- Average engagement rate per platform
- Average views per Reel, TikTok, or YouTube video
- Average story views and completion rates
- Monthly impressions and reach
- Growth trends (show follower growth over the last 6-12 months)
Page 4: Previous Partnerships
Showcase 3-5 of your best brand collaborations. For each, include:
- Brand logo
- A screenshot or thumbnail of the content
- Key results (engagement rate, views, conversions if available)
- A short testimonial from the brand if you have one
If you have not done paid partnerships yet, showcase your best organic content about products you love. This demonstrates your ability to create compelling brand-adjacent content.
Page 5: Services and Rates
List your available content formats with starting rates:
- Instagram Feed Post — starting at $X
- Instagram Reel — starting at $X
- Instagram Story Set (3-5 frames) — starting at $X
- TikTok Video — starting at $X
- YouTube Integration — starting at $X
- Content Licensing / Whitelisting — starting at $X additional
Using "starting at" language signals that rates are negotiable based on scope.
Design Tips
- Keep it to 3-5 pages — brands skim media kits; they do not read them cover to cover
- Use your brand colors and aesthetic — the media kit should feel like your content
- PDF format — easy to email, no formatting issues
- Update quarterly — stale metrics undermine credibility
Free Tools to Create Your Media Kit
You do not need a graphic designer. Free tools like Canva (search "media kit template"), Notion (for a living, linkable media kit), or Adobe Express offer professional templates that any creator can customize in under an hour.
